The government has made a good start, Regling says
“I believe that the government has made a good start,” European Stability Mechanism (ESM) managing director Klaus Regling said on Sunday in an interview with ‘Kathimerini’ newspaper.
Asked about the 7-year bond issue, Regling said that it was another positive sign. The markets, he said, have confidence in the new government’s economic policies.
Regling estimated that the markets will continue to monitor developments closely, but at present they are positive. “It was a great success,” he stressed.
The managing director of ESM underlined that this proves once again that markets react positively in the right policies. “This can lead to a virtuous circle with lower interest rates. This can actually create some fiscal space. It can also increase foreign interest in direct investment in Greece. I believe the government has made a good start,” Regling said.
