OPAP Sports Academies support 125 Amateur Football Clubs for third consecutive year

In line with its commitment to investing in the future of sports and youth, OPAP announces the continuation of its Corporate Responsibility Program, OPAP Sports Academies, for a third consecutive year. Amateur football clubs wishing to join and benefit from OPAP’s comprehensive training program can now apply at: http://sportsacademies.opap.gr/el

The deadline for submitting applications expires on May 26, 2017. The evaluation process will then be followed to select 125 academies from all over Greece, who will be participating in the program from the beginning of next season. The clubs will be announced September 2017.

Criteria for participation – Evaluation procedure

The evaluation of the clubs will be based on specific quantitative and qualitative criteria, such as safety, the group of coaches, facilities and training specifications. At the same time, each academy will be evaluated according to the philosophy, the operational plan and the regulations-procedures it follows.

All amateur clubs that are members of the Local Associations of Football Clubs, and therefore the Hellenic Football Federation, can participate in the OPAP Sports Academies program if they have:

· A men’s or/and women’s team

· An academy for children aged 7-12 years

The 125 academies taking part in the program this year are eligible to participate again.

Significant benefits for 15,100 children, 500 coaches and 25,000 parents and guardians

The OPAP Sports Academies Program, which is being implemented for a second consecutive year, supports a total of 15,100 children and 500 coaches from 125 academies in 48 prefectures across Greece. At the same time, 25,000 parents and guardians of children participate in the program, who are advised by the specialized scientific team of the program on psychology, nutrition and first aid.

To date, in the framework of the program, 475 training hours and 3,000 hours of scientific seminars for parents, children and coaches have been held.

Each academy receives free sports material that meets its training needs and helps to improve the quality of services provided to children. Specifically, 8,000 balls, 125 sets of training equipment, 15,100 pairs of shin pads and 3,000 pieces of sportswear for children have been distributed.

The integrated training program provided at OPAP Sports Academies includes:

• Scientific support by qualified pediatricians, child psychologists and nutritionists

• Training directions for ages 7 to 12 based on the international standards of UEFA and FIFA

• High quality training material

• Insurance coverage throughout the training sessions and matches, but also for one hour before and one hour after sessions

• Participation in major sports celebrations with both educational and recreational character

Great celebrations of sport all over Greece

In the framework of the OPAP Sports Academies program, great celebrations of sports / festivals are organized every year in 10 regions of Greece. To date, 17 festivals with the participation of 14,820 children and 23,200 parents/chaperons have been held. By the end of May 2017, three festivals will be organized in Thessaloniki, Volos and Kallithea.

During the festivals, young athletes participate in team games and football skills, nutrition lessons through play, and the experience of competing as Paralympic athletes. They are also actively involved in Olympic demonstration sports.
