Piraeus port in 8th spot in Europe in container handling
The port of Piraeus has recorded impressive leap in competitiveness, gaining the 8th spit among the top 20 European ports. The port registered a rapid growth over the past 10 years regarding container handling over the past 10 years, according to data released by a study conducted by port economics.eu.
The figures show that between 2007 and 2016 the port had a whopping 167.7% rise in container handling, with the increase between 2015 and 2016 being 9.45%. Currently the port of Piraeus handles 3,675,000 containers annually. SEP-Cosco has set a target to complete works in the western part of the port docks in order to expand container handling by 7 million. The top 15 European ports had an average fall of 1.6% in container handling in 2015 and a 2.1% rise in 2016.
