Tsipras’ meeting with Mitsotakis on Cyprus issue concluded
The meeting between Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis was concluded.
The prime minister discussed with Mitsotakis the Cyprus issue ahead of the negotiations in Geneva and the critical conference on Thursday.
Mitsotakis reiterated that New Democracy is committed to a fair and viable solution in the framework of a bicommunal, bizonal federation. New Democracy’s fixed position is that the status quo in Cyprus is not acceptable and must be changed.
Therefore the leadership of ND supports the efforts of the Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, while remaining firm on the principle that Cyprus decides and Greece stands by. ND deems it necessary to maintain the national unity of Cyprus and Greece.
