Tsipras to discuss Cyprus issue with EU leaders

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will hold a series of international contacts with European leaders today on the Cyprus problem, ANA-MPA reported on Tuesday.

He is set to speak with European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker, French President Francois Hollande, UK Prime Minister Theresa May, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

According to ANA-MPA’s information the three countries that have a significant influence, and the presence of the EU at the multi-lateral conference to be held on January 12 is considered essential.

ANA-MPA has reported that the meeting Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias will hold with the new UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in New York before the Geneva conference is important because issues of substance will be discussed along with procedural matters.

On Monday, the Prime Minister is expected to inform the political parties. At 10am Tsipras will meet with the head of the New Democracy party, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, at 12pm with the head of the PASOK party, Fofi Gennimata, at 2pm with the Greek communist party leader (KKE) Dimitris Koutsoumbas, at 5pm with the Potami party leader Stavros Theodorakis, at 7:30pm with the head of the Centrist party Vasilis Leventis, and at 8:30pm with the head of the independent party (ANEL) leader Panos Kammenos.

The UN Security Council will be informed by the Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide on the ongoing negotiations after the meetings in Geneva.
