Female fugitive arrested in Kifissia
A 43-year-old female fugitive charged in connection to the Energa-Hellas Power case was arrested in Kifissia, northern Athens, on Monday for violating her home detention terms.
Authorities lost track of the 43-year-old, who was working as a secretary at Energa, last month after she removed an electronic monitoring ankle-bracelet device.
The woman was arrested along with her 37-year-old husband, for whom a European arrest warrant had been issued over charges that included money laundering.
Energa and Hellas Power are accused of withholding millions of euros from the Greek state through a special property tax levied through electricity bills. The companies allegedly collected the levies but subsequently failed to deliver the money to the state.
