Everything changed since we started over using the internet on a daily basis and some things are only a few clicks away. Sex, for example, has never been easier to get, skipping first dates and foreplay …

For Greek women, in particular, the internet and namely the social media and dating sites, is the preferred tool for cheating.
The numbers speak for themselves. Facebook has 128 million users from around the world of which 5,163,000 are based in Greece – twitter has 262 million users of which 401,000 are Greek. Wide use of social media on all devices, particularly smartphones, has changed the way we talk, meet people, flirt and start an affair.
80% of women, i.e. four out five, say that social media are a shortcut to sexual encounters. Three out of five men agree with this, according to a research carried out by Shape and Men’s Fitness magazines in collaboration with the Institute of Psychological and Sexual Health.

konstantinidis“A first reasonable explanation to this difference would be that men are able to find flings offline, since, traditionally, brothels and bars with women have “educated” many generations of men on how to be … naughty. This is something women will not do” explains Dr. Konstantinos Konstantinidis, President of Andrology Institute (www.andrologia.gr).
“In the past, women wanted to be unfaithful, but they couldn’t. Now, not only do they want to cheat but they can also do it. The internet is the ideal place for meeting lovers and, on top of that, it is also trendy”.
Intimacy that is encouraged through social media makes things fast, since, quite often, wannabe lovers skip the first dates and go straight to the fun part. 38% of women and 46.7% of men confessed that they had sex with their newly-found partner much sooner than they expected due to the intimacy that had grown between them while chatting on Facebook.
Moreover, one out of two users (45.6%) admits that they flirt through Facebook, with the purpose of having sex. As they say, approaching a partner is much easier, while anonymity adds the necessary touch of mystery but also security… So, could the internet be a field of opportunities for those seeking love in a stranger’s arms?

“The internet for women is the same as La Bastille in the French Revolution. The divine right of the monarch and patriarch to rule is over…” points out Dr. Konstantinidis.
“All those centuries of oppression and diminishment against women, have activated reflexes of reaction among the female population that saw the internet as an opportunity for technological and cultural revolution as well as sexual liberation”.

But, how do men and women handle the situation when they find out that their other half has been cheating on them?

According to the President of Andrology Institute, women are geniuses in tracking their husbands’ activity. They act like Sherlock Holmes, who first looks for evidence, then combines it with the facts and comes up with his theory on the crime.
“On the other hand, men are incapable of finding evidence; instead, they are searching around like blind men and convict their suspect without any evidence or proof. Women take advantage of this inability, taking charge of the situation and adding insult to injury”, says Dr. Konstantinidis, surgeon urologist – andrologist”

In any case, however, the number of men who look for a sexual partner online is far less than the number of women doing so. Men prefer to surf the net for new trends on gadgets, mobile phones, tablets, cameras etc. instead of looking for their next partner. They like being in the know about technology so that they can impress their friends with the new trends.
Moreover, by nature, men are less used to intrigue and handling innuendos; this is more of a female thing. The male brain needs thrice the time to identify a “suspicious” move. It’s like when men are looking around the house for things that are right under their nose. The butter in the fridge, the blue jacket in the closet etc.

This behaviour is identical to how a man behaves online. A woman is flirting with him and giving out signals but he shuts down the computer without even noticing.
“When using their computer, women act like grand masters in chess, calculating their next two hundred moves … Men, on the other hand, are still beginners, leaving traces everywhere. Women never leave a trace, says Mr. Konstantinidis.

“A woman is always confident about when and how to make her next move. She is almost certain that the lover she has her eye on will fall in the trap that she has set up for him like a canning spider. A man, however, feels so insecure that he will not make any move without asking his mates for their opinion”.
