Weather service warns of downpours, drop in temperatures
The national weather service (HNMS) on Friday issued an announcement warning of strong downpours and plummeting temperatures, especially in the northern parts of the country, over the next few days.
The wet front is expected to start rolling in on Friday, bringing showers and storms to the islands of the Ionian, to Epirus, the western and central mainland and the western Peloponnese, before spreading east to other parts of the mainland through Saturday.
By Sunday, the HNMS said, the wet weather will extend as far as the Eastern Aegean, while easing in western parts, though strong winds are expected to follow in its stead, reaching gale force at sea.
Strong winds will test the Aegean on Tuesday, while a gradual drop in temperatures is expected to result in snow in the mountains and hills of northern and central Greece next week.
