Notaries to block home auctions again on Wednesday
The coordinating committee of Greece’s unions of notaries on Tuesday said that its members would not be attending weekly auctions again this Wednesday, after refusing to sign off on the process for several weeks.
In an announcement, the committee said that it will, however, allow some auctions to go ahead if permission is applied for by notaries. These include auctions aimed at collecting alimony or unpaid wages, those involving perishables and those concerning assets other than residences, among others.
Notaries are opposing the auctioning of homes as a means of collecting individual debts to the state and have held several protest rallies outside courthouses around the country to block the process.
