ND spokesman plays down impact of Trump victory on US ties
New Democracy spokesman Giorgos Koumoutsakos on Wednesday reacted to the outcome of the US presidential election playing down the potential impact of Donald Trump’s victory on Greece’s ties with the United States.
“Greek-American relations have solid foundations. They remain strong,” Koumoutsakos told Real FM on Wednesday.
“We evaluate official policy, not pre-election statements,” he said, adding that American voters had made “a democratic decision.”
Koumoutsakos added that outgoing US President Barack Obama’s planned visit to Athens on November 15 would now take place in a different context.
In a message on his Twitter account earlier in the day, Koumoutsakos posted the title of REM’s 1987 hit “It’s the end of the world as we know it.”
