The Aristotle University of Thessalomiki (AUTH) administration accused the Greek government fof negligence regarding vandalism on the premises during a sit-in.

Hundreds of anarchists from Greece and Europe have occupied the AUTH campus without permission, setting up a so-called “No Border Camp”, it was during the sit-in that the university administration discovered the occupiers had vandalized the premises.

The AUTH administration has issued an official statement calling on state authorities to intervene stressing that, “Public universities are places of education and research and it is the State’s obligation to protect them.”

The institution calls on relevant ministries to address the problems caused by the “No Border Camp” and cooperate effectively with the university authorities to solve them.

“The state has no excuse for the negligence,” the statement concludes.

Meanwhile, participants of the “No Border Camp” rallied in central Thessaloniki on Thursday and attacked City Hall where they broke computers, destroyed paper documents and overturned desks, they also spray-painted slogans on the entrance walls.

Main opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis accused the government of neglecting the protection of universities, citizens and public property and of harboring anarchists.
