Judicial probe into Vgenopoulos reopens
Judicial investigations into businessman Andreas Vgenopoulos have been reopened and will be overseen by anti-corruption prosecutor Eleni Raikou, it has emerged.
Appeals court prosecutor Georgia Tsatani had been responsible for probing Vgenopoulos’s role as the main shareholder in Cyprus’s now-defunct Laiki Bank but shelved her investigation, claiming that there was not enough evidence to support any allegations of wrongdoing.
Tsatani, however, is now facing disciplinary action for not proceeding with the case.
Judicial officials also say that new evidence has come to light, prompting the investigation to be reopened. Vgenopoulos denies any wrongdoing.
