Protesters have gathered outside a building in Limassol with the mobile phone tower on top of it, to demand that it be immediately taken down.

On Saturday, people gathered outside the building on Nikos and Despina Pattychis Avenue in the area of Havouza in Limassol.

There have been complaints launched that the tower is giving off electromagnetic radiation, which has reportedly caused ten deaths due to cancer, and other issues.

The tower has been in place for ten years, CNA has reported.

A local member of the business community in the area, Poly Kattashis mentioned that the situation has reached its boiling point and that if there is not any action done to deal with the situation, the protests will increase.

One of the residents in the area, Yiorgos Diogenous, has called on authorities to deal with the issue and take the appropriate measure to remove the tower.

Women in the area that have had cancer, also called for the tower to be taken down so that their children don’t have to deal with the same issues.

CNA was able to get an essay from a technical adviser on the issue.

Dangers on the level of electromagnetic energy are described in the essay. The essay also includes that the levels of radiation in the area are thousands of times higher than the normal.
