PASOK leader goes on the offensive, lashing out at SYRIZA and ND
PASOK leader Fofi Gennimata lashed out on Saturday against the SYRIZA-led coalition and opposition New Democracy, essentially describing them as two sides of the same coin.
“The similarities between the right wing and SYRIZA are no coincidence,” she told a party conference, accusing both New Democracy and the leftist party of insincerity for opposing tough austerity measures when they were in the opposition but joined the bailout bandwagon once they came to power.
Meanwhile, former PASOK Prime Minister Costas Simitis took aim at political forces of the center left for failing to coalesce to face off with the right wing and “the so-called Left.”
“Those that do not believe the Right and the so-called Left can achieve a stable economy, functioning democratic institutions and a social solidarity that doesn’t hinge on the desires of unions, must come together,” he said.
