Finance Ministry employee accused of accepting bribe
An employee with the Greek Finance Ministry’s General Secretariat for Revenues has been arrested on charges of accepting a bribe, police said on Friday.
According to the report, the civil servant was apprehended after receiving an envelope containing 3,000 euros from the accountant of a paint store that he had just inspected for tax evasion. The accountant is also in custody.
The worker was reported to police by two colleagues who allegedly witnessed the suspects making a deal so that the inspector would submit a favorable report.
Authorities are looking for the owner of the business, who may face charges of abetting in bribery.
The two suspects will face an Athens prosecutor on Friday.
