Refugees in Piraeus and Idomeni refuse leaving the camps
The Greek government seems unable to handle the current situation in the makeshift camps where refugees and immigrants are determined not to leave the area and be transferred to other hosting facilities.
Meanwhile, after sending back the first 202 immigrants to Turkey on Monday, the readmission process has stopped and is expected to resume on Friday. The increased number of asylum applications holds back the progress of returns, since there is still no mechanism for reviewing the applications. Refugees and immigrants are urged by activists and dubious NGOs to refuse being transferred to hosting facilities hoping that they would sooner or later find a way to continue their journey to Europe.
Authorities are trying to convince them by constantly informing them about the situation and that borders are closed so as they would leave the makeshift camps and move to organized facilities. However, the buses sent yesterday to Piraeus port to transfer the refugees to organized facilities remained empty. After being informed by the representatives of ministries, the refugees stated once more that they would not leave the port and asked to open the borders.
