Cocaine haul at Athens airport points to gang
A 43-year-old man who was arrested at Athens airport on Thursday after taking delivery of 13 kilograms of cocaine hidden in boxes of ship parts has allegedly confessed that he was working on behalf of a fellow-Albanian who may be part of a wider drug network.
Greece’s anti-drug squad was alerted to the parcels by German authorities. They had discovered the cocaine during an x-ray scan of the boxes after they arrived in Germany from Panama and before sending them on their way to Greece, which was the final destination.
Greek officers arrested the 43-year-old transport company driver after he picked up the shipment at the airport.
