New Democracy opposes early elections, but…
The president of the main opposition Kyriakos Mitsotakis has argued that while New Democracy is against early elections being called, he is confident that he will win the elections.
Monday’s stock market crash appears to have bolstered the rumors of the coalition government calling early elections, given the major uncertainty and insecurity. As such, the main opposition leader is being careful in his statements over the recent protests over the pension reform and hot spots.
Mr. Mitsotakis will attend the European People’s Party summit meeting next week in Brussels, where he will argue that Greece needs greater European support in managing its borders, since Greek borders are also the EU’s external borders. As such, he considers the development of Frontex into a European coast guard agency necessary.
