Greece’s lenders to visit Athens – IMF’s stance worries Greece and Brussels

The representatives of the institutions will visit Athens in the next few days in order to begin the first evaluation of the Greek program, as Commissioner for Economic Affairs Pierre Moscovici announced.

He said that institutions have already started working on the particularly tough issues of budgetary targets and social security system and added that he is “confident” that the representatives of the institutions will visit Athens in the next few days to begin the discussions on the program evaluation with the Greek authorities.

However, IMF’s stance has caused great concern not only to Greek government, but also to European officials, according to EU sources.

The Greek government, though, avoided to comment on information claiming that the IMF has asked for 15% pension cuts and rejected the Greek proposal on social security reform and government’s agreement with the employers’ organizations to increase employer contributions.

IMF did not refuted the information published in the American edition of Huffington Post. Instead, it referred to its representative Jerry Rice’s statements who said last week that the Fund examined the proposals and their evaluation has not been completed.
