Cyprus hopes played down
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades held talks on Friday on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. According to sources, both men expressed concern about the high hopes being generated as regards a possible reunification deal on Cyprus being clinched this year.
The two leaders are said to have agreed that it would be best to dampen expectations, especially after Anastasiades and Turkish-Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci appeared together in Davos, sparking increased hope that they will be able to conclude their peace talks successfully.
Tsipras and Anastasiades also discussed the preparations for a trilateral meeting between Greece, Cyprus and Egypt, which is due to take place on January 28, and whether these meetings could be expanded to include other countries, such as Jordan and Bulgaria.
