Syrian refugee dies after landing on Lesvos shore
A 60-year-old Syrian woman died on Saturday after reaching the Greek island of Levsos on a boat from Turkey.
According to reports, the woman had heart problems and was unable to survive the arduous journey by sea. The boat she was traveling in with other asylum-seekers and migrants landed at the beach of Kratigos, south of the island’s capital, Mytilene. The 60-year-old collapsed as soon as she stepped on shore.
Authorities on the island on Friday buried a six-month-old Syrian child that died two days earlier at the Kara Tepe reception center. A postmortem examination found that the infant had suffered respiratory failure due to a lung problem.
