Thousands of Christmas wishes of children from SOS Children’s Villages, Chatzikyriakeio Foundation for Children Care and Children Support Centre of Elefsis come true with the help of OPAP

The heart of Christmas beats until December 31, 2017, at the four Christmas Galleries that OPAP has created in shopping centers The Mall Athens, Athens Metro Mall, River West and Mediterranean Cosmos in Thessaloniki.

For the fourth consecutive year, OPAP continues the great celebration of love and donation. People are invited to pick their ownWishing Ornaments and make the Christmas wishes – paintings of children of SOS Children’s Villages, Chatzikyriakeio Foundation for Children Care and Children Support Centre of Elefsis come true. People who visit the four shoppingmalls will have the opportunity to make a children’s wish cometrue, by buying the gift pictured. When visitors deliver theirgifts to OPAP’s Christmas Galleries atthe shopping malls, theywill receive the children’s painting as asouvenir.

The opening of the Christmas Callery at Athens Metro Mall was held on Tuesday, December 12 2017, and was attended by a big number of people who supported OPAP’s initiative.

OPAP CEO, Damian Cope, stressed: “We are proud for our initiative – Wishing Ornaments – that has been embraced by the society for a fourth consecutive year, making the Christmas wishes of children come true. Remaining committed to building a better future for the young generation, we support the work of institutions that stand beside children in need. To date, we have implemented 22 relevant projects. This year, we are extending the scope of “Contribution Squad” app, through which we will contribute in the implementation of infrastructure works in the facilities of the institutions that participate in Wishing Ornaments”.

Chief Customer Officer of OPAP, Petr Matejovsky, stated: “Once more, thousands of children have drawn their wishes on a piece of paper and all of us have the opportunity to make them come true. We would like to thank all the NGOs and foundations that have trusted us with the wishes of children and invite everyone to make them come true. We continue to work for a better future for children in need. You can download the “Contribution Squad” app to collect points that OPAP will turn into infrastructure works”.

The Director of Marketing & Fundraising of the”SOS children’s villages”, Elsa Stathopoulou, underlined: “Actions like this one by OPAP, that talk to childrens’ heart and bring people closer to our work are very important to us. Once more, due to this initiative, Santa Claus will visit thousands of children that might face important difficulties every day, but remain children and always seek joy and carelessness”.

Anastasia Katsilieri, Director of Children Care in Chatzikyriakeio Foundation for Children Care, mentioned: “With the help of OPAP, with this act of love towards children and the participation of people – who we warmly thank – we prove that all together can make social interventions with acts of love, concord and compassion”.

Ο Χαράλαμπος Πυρουνάκης, Πρόεδρος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου του Κέντρου Αγάπης Ελευσίνας εξέφρασε την ευγνωμοσύνη του για την πρωτοβουλία του ΟΠΑΠ, σημειώνοντας: «Συγχαίρω τον ΟΠΑΠ, γιατί με αυτή την εκδήλωση αγάπης, τα όνειρα που έχουμε για τα παιδιά μας μπορούμε να τα πραγματοποιήσουμε».

Charalampos Pirounakis, EB President in Children Support Centre of Elefsis, expressed his gratitude for OPAP’s initiative, noting: “Congratulations to OPAP, because with this act of love, we can make our dreams for our children come true”.

The event at Athens Metro Mall was also attended, inter alia, by athletes and executives from Olympiacos BC, AEK BC, AEK FC, Panathinaikos FC and Atromitos FC, veteran footballers of Panathinaikos, athletes of volleyball teams of Panathinaikos and Ethnikos, Federation of Greek Wheelchair Basketballers Unions, Hellenic Athletics Federation, as well as representatives of Hellenic Football Federation, who have picked out Wishing Ornaments and have made the childrens’ wishes come true. The event was also attended by athletes of Panathinaikos BC Superfoods.

Infrastructure works via “OPAP Contribution Squad”

OPAP, in the framework of its Corporate Responsibility program, implements infrastructure projects in NGOs and foundations participating in Wishing Ornaments, aiming at improving the quality of life of children and contributing to the creation of a pleasant environment. This year, everyone can participate in this initiative for FREE, via the “OPAP Contribution Squad” app. In particular, people who download the application on their mobile phone or tablet, free of charge, have the opportunity to participate in Christmas games and collect points. OPAP will turn these points into infrastructure works at SOS Children’s Villages, Chatzikyriakeio Foundation for Children Care and Children Support Centre of Elefsis.

Since 2014, OPAP, along with thousands of citizens in Athens and Thessaloniki and its employees, has offered 9,674 Wishing Ornaments making Christmas wishes of children come true. Furthermore, OPAP has implemented 22 infrastructure works in the NGOs and foundations that participated in the program during the previous years, improving significantly the quality of life of children.
