The findings of an opinion poll by Public Issue, conducted on behalf of leftist newspaper Avgi, put New Democracy significantly ahead of SYRIZA and indicate that a majority of Greeks are seriously dissatisfied.

According to the poll, 36 percent of Greeks would prefer an ND government with just 14 percent favoring a coalition of SYRIZA with the rightwing Independent Greeks that is currently governing.

Similarly 42 percent said ND leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis is the best choice for prime minister while 23 percent said Alexis Tsipras was suited to the role.

Nine out of 10 said they were dissatisfied with the government while 51 percent said they were in favor of snap elections being called.
