Six people have ben taken to hospital on the island of Chios after being injured during the wildfire that has been raging in the island since Thursday night. The fire broke out between the villages of Sidirounda, Katavasi and Managros. A 64-year-old woman is in critical condition suffering from 70% burns on her body and is waiting to be transferred to Athens via helicopter. Four other people have suffered slight burns while the other person is also in serious condition. 28 firefighters and 15 fire fighting vehicles have been operating to put out the flames that scorched sparse cultivation and bush areas. Water has been dropped from the air since Friday morning. The area of Sidirounda and Provatas are two of the few pockets of green ones left on the island. String winds are impeding the operations to put the blaze under control.
