A military official serving in the Turkish Embassy to Greece was arrested in Turkey after being charged with participating in the failed military coup to overthrow the Erdogan government last Friday.

According to sources, the major sergeant, who was reportedly the assistant of the Turkish military attache of the Embassy, was on holidays in Turkey when authorities took him into custody for involvement in the plot to overthrow the Turkish government. The Turkish Embassy has denied the information.

Meanwhile, Turkish President Erdogan is continuing his sweeping persecutions against officials suspected of being involved in the July 15 coup attempt, with estimates putting those arrested at 60,000.
