Exquisite mosaic of Hercules Labours uncovered in Cyprus

Restoration excavations have uncovered a mosaic depicting the 12 labours of mythical Hercules, in Larnaca, Cyprus. Pieces of the mosaic were first unveiled during works on the sewage system in the past. Antiquities Ephor George Filotheou said the mosaic was up to 20 by 4.5 meters in size and was a Roman era mosaic of great archaeological significance and rare beauty. ‘Masterpieces like these come to light every 100 years’, Filotheou said.
