The leader of the main opposition Kyriakos Mitsotakis rejected the coalition government’s proposal for proportional representation, which he called “criminal”, proclaiming that if elected he will aim to reverse the change.

In a Monday-evening interview on Star Channel, the New Democracy leader claimed that proportional representation will cause more problems than it seeks to solve and will result in complete disarray. The ND leader also claimed that the government’s initiative is to block his party’s prospects and rejected giving voting rights to 17-year-olds.

During his interview the main opposition leader repeatedly criticized the government’s economic policy and estimated that if he were in power he could help restore credibility in Greece, to begin lifting the capital controls. Later on he pledged to gradually reduce taxes and encourage investments via reforms and structural changes.

In relation to the upcoming second bailout review and accompanying prior actions, Mr. Mitsotakis expressed his opposition to collective dismissals, which he argues were “pointless” and underlined the need to update existing union laws.
