Fire Brigade tackling major forest fires in Ilia, Viotia and Evia
The strong winds, dry weather and high temperatures across the country have resulted in three major forest fires breaking out in Ilia, Viotia and Evnia. Although the Fire Brigade was quick to respond with firefighters and water bombers, the flames have quickly spread.
The first fire broke out at the coastal settlement of Satanti in Viotia at about 6:40am. At present there are about 50 firefighters and 14 vehicles deployed in the area.
The next fire broke out at about 8:45 in a remote forested area in Kryovrysi, in the Municipality of Ancient Olympia in Ilia. The Fire Brigade has dispatched 25 firefighers and 14 vehicles there.
Finally, a major fire reportedly broke out around noon in the area of Dokos in Evia.
