Assailants firebomb police unit, Culture Ministry offices in Exarchia

Unidentified vandals attacked a unit of riot police near the neighborhood of Exarchia with petrol bombs in the early hours of Sunday morning before targeting the nearby offices of the Culture Ministry.

No one was injured in the attack on riot police on Averof Street at 1.45 a.m.

According to police sources, the assailants emerged from the grounds of the Athens Polytechnic, torched some garbage dumpsters and then fled.

Three hours later, unidentified assailants lobbed petrol bombs at the offices of the Culture Ministry on Tositsa Street. The attack caused damage to the building but no injuries.

There were no arrests.
