New Democracy preparing constitutional review proposals

The coordinator of New Democracy’s constitutional review proposals Kostas Tasoulas presented a draft plan of nine reforms to party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The proposals being developed involve:

Limiting the ability of calling early elections and introducing a 5-year term for Parliament
Giving parliamentary minorities greater power
Limiting the immunity for MPs, so that it only covers political actions
Extending the powers of the President of the Hellenic Democracy
Providing incentives for investments
Bolstering the independence of the judiciary
Abolishing the state monopoly in higher education
Simplifying constitutional review procedures
Streamlining the Constitution and abolishing bureaucratic provisions
