Family tragedy in Larnaca, after father holds son hostage
A father, who held his 16-month old child hostage in their home, is dead from police fire, police said on Saturday.
Specifically the 41-year-old man was holding his son hostage and threatening to kill him in their home in Oroklini, Larnaca.
The man had also been holding the child’s mother hostage, but she had managed to escape. The police said that the 36-year-old woman was being held by her husband, who was threatening to kill her with a knife.
On her escape, the woman was able to inform the police, who arrived on the scene and cordoned it off.
Police tried to negotiate with the man, they said. They asked him to let the child go. Police said that they negotiated with the man for 12 hours.
Finally, it was decided that the Special Forces should be called in to help the situation. The Special Forces incapacitated the man.
The police have told Radio Proto that they are investigating and that the scene has remained cordoned off.
