Fabre resigns under pressure from Athens & Epidaurus Festival
The curator of the Athens & Epidaurus Festival Jan Fabre has reported resigned from his post, following the major reactions in Greece against his plans for this year’s Festival.no
Although there have not yet been any official statements, either from the Flemish artist himself or the Ministry of Culture, Mr. Fabre announced his intention to step down in an interview for Belgian newspaper L’ Avenir.
The Flemish artist came under fire from artists and politicians alike, over his decision to focus this year’s festival on Belgium and limit the number of Greek works. Many expressed their frustration and indignation over this controversial decision and spoke of a “Belgian Festival”, while actress and director Olia Lazaridou commented that this was a case of “colonization”.
