Construction works at the tunnels of Thessaloniki’s unfinished metro resumed on March 28 after four years of inaction due to legal and financial problems, the Infrastructure ministry announced.

Infrastructure Minister Christos Spirtzis inaugurated the operation of the first Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) named “Hercules” at the main section of the tunnels.

Mr. Spirtzis said the ministry has already signed a contract to conduct archaeological work at the site worth 25 million euros which will start very soon.

The construction works will be completed by 2020, according to statements of president of Attiko Metro Giannis Milopoulos and president of AKTOR Dimitris Koutras.
