Protesters clash with police outside the Ministry of Finance
Public hospital employees have occupied the Ministry of Finance off Syntagma Square as of 6am. Shortly after 8am though, the police launched an operation to remove the protesters from the ministry, which resulted in some pushing and tension.
The occupation was carried out in relation to the pension system reforms, with the protesters stating that they will remain on-site until at least 11am, not allowing any employees to enter the building. They have also demanded a meeting with the ministry’s leadership to discus their demands.
The president of the nationwide public hospital employee union (POEDIN) Michalis Giannakos commented told the media that this is the fourth time that they have requested a meeting with the minister and been rejected.
