Tsipras and UNHCR Grandi discuss refugee crisis developments
The Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has arranged to meet with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi in order to discuss the refugee crisis. A press conference has been scheduled for 4PM.
Following the meeting with the PM, the UN official will meet with various members of the ministerial council and will later visit temporary refugee accommodation centers in Athens. Mr. Grandi also visited the island of Lesvos on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, the Greek PM contacted his Dutch counterpart Mark Rutte to express his disappointment over the EU’s inability to ensure that implementation of the decisions taken at the recent summit.
Mr. Tsipras was highly critical of the Austrian government’s provocative initiative to hold a summit meeting with Western Balkan states without Greece and stressed that any decisions in relation to the refugee crisis must be collective.
