New Democracy calls for volunteers to help draft party manifesto
New Democracy has sent out an open invitation to non-party officials to help draft the conservatives’ governing manifesto.
The call for academics, professionals and executives to come forward to contribute voluntarily to the process of compiling the policy program is aimed at making New Democracy more approachable to new voters as well as injecting new blood into the party.
Those interested in contributing to the process have been asked to send their CVs to the conservatives by February 23.
The only criteria are that the applicants must have a postgraduate degree, excellent knowledge of English and “top communication skills.”
“New Democracy does not want to limit itself to the opinion of our own party members – their contribution is going to be valuable anyway,” said the party’s joint vice president Costis Hatzidakis on Tuesday.
“We want to open up to universities, to the market, to society and to worthy Greeks who will be able to contribute toward the creation of a modern and reliable program that incorporates the best European practices,” he added.
New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis also named on Tuesday the members of the committee that will organize the party congress, set to be held in April.
Mitsotakis departed on Tuesday for Brussels, where he has a series of meetings scheduled with European officials that will focus on the refugee crisis.
The conservative chief said that closing borders would not help tackle the problem and he is expected to send a clear message during his meetings that Greece should not be excluded from the Schengen area.
