Ιtaly’s Parliament President to visit Cyprus and Greece
Italy’s Parliament President Laura Boldrini is to arrive in Cyprus on Thursday for an official visit, during the second leg of a tour to the island and Greece.
After her visit to Nicosia to speak with Cyprus’ leadership Boldrini will travel to Athens on Friday to meet with Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and her counterpart Nikos Voutsis.
On Saturday, Boldrini will visit to the Greek island of Lesvos, which has received a higher number of migrants and refugees in recent months than any other location in the Mediterranean.
While on Lesvos, she will witness the current crisis first hand, talk with local mayor Spiros Galinos, as well as with representatives of aid organisations and the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).
Boldrini is also scheduled to hold a joint press conference with Greece’s Alternate Migration Policy Minister Yiannis Mouzalas.
Boldrini was the UNHCR representative for Southern Europe from 1998 until 2012.
