Three refugee children die after boat capsizes: 20 rescued
A NGO vessel on Friday collected the bodies of three refugee children off the coast of Agathonissi after their boat capsized and sank.
A military outpost on the island had earlier located the boat carrying refugees and contacted the Coast Guard for assistance. The Coast Guard arrived at the area and managed to rescue 20 people.
Meanwhile, a Coast Guard vessel which was in pursuit of human traffickers ran aground on Thursday evening near the Turkish shores due to a technical problem. No injuries were reported.
The Joint Rescue and Coordination Center (EKSED) contacted the Turkish Coast Guard to assist the operation.
