Tsakalotos to update Eurogroup on pension reform plans
The Minister of Finances Euclid Tsakalotos will detail the main points of the pension system reform that the government is planning at the Eurogroup meeting that has been called for Thursday.
Although the Eurogroup has yet to receive a translation of the 170-page reform draft, a European official commented that the Greek plan is ambitious, but was quick to note that it is too early to have a compete idea on the reform given that certain figures and data are missing.
The official added that there is the possibility of further measure being necessary and estimated that the negotiations will take a long time. No decision is expected at the Eurogroup meeting scheduled for Thursday, with the official not expecting one either in the next meeting, which is scheduled to take place in three weeks.
Regarding the review of the Greek bailout program, the European official suggested that it may begin next week, with the institutions arriving in Athens, but was unable to predict how long it would take. The official, however, emphasized that it is important for Greece to conclude the review as soon as possible.
