Refugees and migrants to Greece could surpass 2015 numbers
The number of refugees and migrants Greek authorities on Lesvos will have to manage this spring are likely to be so high that those recorded in 2015 may appear small in comparison, a source from the island’s police department.
“It seems that our Turkish neighbours, despite the pressure they are under, do not want or cannot control their compatriot traffickers who naturally make huge profits for the Turkish economy through the management of so many people,” added the unnamed source.
According to data from Moria’s identification and registration centre, 1,600 people arrived on Lesvos from Sunday morning until Monday morning, while last Saturday and Friday the numbers climbed to 2,000 migrants per day.
