NYC security preps for New Year’s Eve
New York City is ready to party on New Year’s Eve.
The mayor, NYPD brass and the FBI outlined security preparations Tuesday, ahead of the celebration in Times Square Thursday night.
The officials promised residents and tourists the Big Apple will be one of the safest places to ring in 2016. Hundreds of thousands of revelers are expected to see the annual ball drop. Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said his department has spent an entire year preparing.
Streets in and around Times Square will close early Thursday morning to set up barricades and checkpoints. Everyone will be subject to bag inspections, and no backpacks, duffle bags or alcohol will be allowed in.
Five thousand police officers will be deployed alongside traffic and plainclothes officers.
