Bag snatchers who caused 89-year-old’s death arrested

Police said Friday that they have arrested a 37-year-old man who, along with an accomplice that is being sought, had snatched a handbag from an 89-year-old woman, causing her death, in September.

The incident occurred in Nikaia, near Piraeus, on September 25, when the two men, who were riding a motorcycle, approached the woman and grabbed her handbag.

In doing so, they knocked the elderly victim to the ground. She suffered fatal injuries.

The pair are thought to have carried out five more similar robberies in various parts of Attica.
