Flambouraris says arson attack on house result of media allegations

State Minister Alekos Flambouraris and his party, SYRIZA, alleged that an arson attack on his house in Athens late on Friday was the result of repeated efforts by opposition MPs and the media to link him to corruption.

Flambouraris, a close adviser to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, blamed the attack – which involved a flammable liquid being thrown at the building’s entrance and then set on fire – on “mudslinging, lies and slander that started from corrupt electronic and print media in association with the reactionary political powers.” “

My decision to maintain a measured response to the attacks against me has reached its limit,” added the minister.

“MPs who are targeting me for no reason at all but in tandem with journalists and other murky interests have to rein themselves in and stop immediately,” said Flambouraris, who threatened to take legal action against those making allegations of wrongdoing against him.

The minister was not in his house, located in the Exarchia neighborhood of central Athens, when the attack took place. The entrance to the building was badly damaged.
