The turbulent history of the small community of the island of Kastellorizo is described in the documentary “At the edge of the Aegean- Kastellorizo”.
Kastellorizo’s history is recorded from its full peak at the end of 19th century, the wars, the period of its occupation, the migration and its incorporation to Greece in 1948 and its revival.
The people of Kastellorizo endured because they had courage, tenacity, culture and a rich tradition as it is reflected in film.
The documentary will be screened at a event-tribute to the history of Kastellorizo at the War Museum in Athens on Sunday at 19:00.
The event was organised by the Hellenic History Foundation and is under President of Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos’ auspices.
The film is based on the diary of Christina Efstratiadou, a woman from Kastellorizo and on the book “Kastellorizo 1890-1948 by Nikolaos Papanastassiou and Nikolaos Voyatzis which will be presented on the sidelines of the event. A number of aquarelles of Kastellorizo by noted painter Pavlos Hambidis will be also in display at the place of the event.
