Authorities find 5 tons of junk in man’s apartment
Police found 5 tons of garbage and junk in the apartment of a 60-year-old man in the Thessaloniki district of Toumba on Friday after neighbors complained about a bad smell.
Officers entered the apartment with staff from the municipality’s sanitation department and regional health authority officials. An inspection revealed that the premises posed a health risk, prompting authorities to charge the tenant with public health violations.
The 60-year-old has been in a psychiatric clinic since the end of last month, according to sources. Authorities carried out a similar inspection on the same apartment in February 2014.
